vs New York

2 - 1

The first period was a bizarre success despite the team being outshot eleven to eight. Colton Sissons opened the scoring with a tip-in before Easton Cowan doubled the lead on a power play with help from Jack Roslovic and Morgan Rielly. It is truly peak Leafs culture to have a rookie and a bottom six forward provide all the offense while Auston Matthews and William Nylander finished the game with zero points and a minus one rating. We looked relatively dominant in the second period with twelve shots but the third period was a different story as we reverted to our true form by only putting four pucks on the net.

The penalty box saw plenty of action with John Tavares and Nick Paul taking turns sitting in the second period while Kirill Marchenko and Jake McCabe tried to gift wrap a comeback in the third. We even managed to give up a shorthanded goal to Emil Heineman just to keep the anxiety levels high for the fans. Anthony Stolarz was the only person who seemed interested in keeping the lead as he made twenty-six saves to bail out a roster that apparently forgot how to play hockey in the final frame. It was a win but let us not pretend this was anything other than a goalie standing on his head to save us from another embarrassing collapse.
