The script remains undefeated. Building a three goal lead in the first period was our first mistake because it gave us that dangerous thing called hope. John Tavares opened the scoring on the power play and Jacob Quillan even potted his first career goal to make it look like a blowout. William Nylander was doing his usual thing by batting a puck out of the air to put us up by three to cap off the first period. We were somehow leading by three goals despite being outshot by Dallas in the opening frame. Then the second period happened and the wheels fell off. Mavrik Bourque turned into a one man wrecking crew while our defense stood around like they were waiting for a bus. Morgan Rielly took an interference penalty and the lead evaporated faster than a contract negotiation.
Just when you thought the collapse was complete after Dallas tied it, the boys decided to tease us one more time. Max Domi and Nicholas Robertson scored early in the third to restore a two goal cushion. Naturally, we spent the rest of the game practicing our best impression of a sieve. Steven Lorentz went to the box for holding and Dallas used that momentum to spark yet another comeback. Dallas only needed six shots in the third period to score three times, including goals from Wyatt Johnston and Arttu Hyry. Mavrik Bourque finished his hat trick while Artur Akhtyamov finished with a save percentage of 81.3 percent. Losing 6-5 after leading by multiple goals twice is exactly the kind of emotional torture that keeps this fan base coming back for more punishment.
