vs Washington

0 - 4

Getting shut out at home while outshooting the opponent is the most authentic experience a person can have in this city. The boys managed to put twenty-one pucks on Logan Thompson and somehow none of them found the back of the net. Max Domi decided to spend his time in the box for roughing and hooking instead of helping the offense. Dylan Strome got things started in the first period after the Leafs actually looked decent in the faceoff circle. It turns out winning sixty-five percent of your draws like John Tavares does not actually count for points on the scoreboard.

The second period was a beautiful disaster where Joseph Woll surrendered two goals in less than three minutes to Ryan Leonard and Martin Fehérváry. Woll ended up with a save percentage that looks more like a bad grade in a math class than a professional hockey stat. Even with Easton Cowan logging over twenty minutes of ice time he failed to register a single shot on goal. Calle Jarnkrok finished with a minus three rating which is quite the achievement for only twelve minutes of work. Anthony Stolarz came in for a very brief two minutes and managed to not let anything in which technically makes him the statistical hero of this mess.

Watching the team muster only five shots in the third period while trailing by three goals is exactly why fans have trust issues. The power play went zero for three and looked about as dangerous as a butter knife. Cole Hutson put us out of our misery with an empty net goal to seal the four to zero loss. Jacob Quillan tried to get something going by drawing a late penalty and leading the team with four hits but it was far too late for any heroics. We can all look forward to the next game where we will inevitably convince ourselves that things will be different this time.
