They lost. Classic.

@ San Jose

1 - 4

Only the Leafs could travel all the way to San Jose and decide that putting more than 19 shots on net was an optional activity. The first period was a textbook example of how to look busy while doing absolutely nothing as Zack Ostapchuk and Collin Graf staked the Sharks to an early lead. Anthony Stolarz did his best to keep the score from looking like a football game by making 21 saves but he can only do so much when the defense allows three goals before the halfway point of the game. It is truly impressive how this team can make a cross-country flight just to play with the urgency of a midday nap.

There was a brief flicker of hope in the second period when John Tavares managed to convert on the only power play opportunity of the game. Easton Cowan and William Nylander picked up the assists on that snap shot but the momentum was immediately surrendered by the penalty box door getting a workout. Dakota Joshua decided that tripping opponents was his primary contribution by picking up two separate minors that stalled any chance of a comeback. Even with a slight edge in shots during the final frame the offense remained cold, eventually resulting in Adam Gaudette sealing the deal with an unassisted goal. It is another classic chapter in the book of games we probably should have won but simply refused to take seriously.
