Another classic performance saw the blue and white decide to see how many penalties they could take before the first intermission. Nicholas Robertson and Brandon Carlo both took seats in the box early which allowed New York to go two for two on the power play. While Joseph Woll did his best to keep the score respectable with 31 saves, the rest of the team looked like they were skating through a thick layer of maple syrup. Steven Lorentz managed to find the back of the net in the second period thanks to a feed from Bo Groulx, giving everyone just enough false hope to keep watching before Emil Heineman put New York up by two again.
The highlight for many was probably Morgan Rielly deciding he had seen enough and dropping the gloves with Kyle MacLean. It was a nice change of pace to see some emotion since the power play unit went zero for four and looked about as dangerous as a plastic butter knife. The comeback effort really hit a wall when John Tavares took a double minor for high sticking with about five minutes left in the game. It is truly impressive how this team can find new ways to drain the life out of a building. Instead of a late surge, the fans got to watch the clock tick down while New York peppered Woll with 13 shots in the final frame and effectively parked the bus.
