The experience of being a fan of this team is essentially just paying for the privilege of being hurt by a piece of frozen rubber. Matty Beniers scored for Seattle and Nicholas Robertson managed to tie it up during the opening frame. That period of equality was just a cruel setup for the inevitable collapse. Shane Wright and Brandon Montour scored two goals in a row during the second period. That is the kind of defensive efficiency that makes a person want to take up a less stressful hobby like juggling chainsaws.
Morgan Rielly tried to spark a comeback during the final period. It was a valiant effort that convinced the most delusional among us that a miracle was possible. Shane Wright put an end to those fever dreams with his second goal of the game. Jared McCann added one more goal just to make sure the score looked as lopsided as our emotional stability. Outshooting an opponent thirty one to twenty two and losing by three goals is a statistical anomaly for most teams but for us it is just a standard road trip.
