For a fleeting moment, the 2-0 lead felt solid, like a sensible investment or a well-timed subway train. But being a Leafs fan is all about understanding that a two-goal cushion is merely a setup for a more elaborate punchline.

Naturally, the script flipped. Connor McMichael started the comeback, and the third period became a masterclass in watching a lead evaporate like a paycheck in downtown Toronto. Anthony Beauvillier and Jakob Chychrun did the heavy lifting before Tom Wilson sealed the deal with an empty-netter that felt like a personal insult.
