vs Seattle

3 - 4(OT)

The Scotiabank Arena faithful were treated to the hockey equivalent of a lukewarm double-double as the Buds fell 4-3 to the Kraken. It started in typical fashion, letting Shane Wright find the back of the net early, because why make things easy for the home crowd? Morgan Rielly answered back, but the second period was a chaotic mess of Jani Nyman and Vince Dunn goals sandwiched around a John Tavares marker. Watching this team is like a recurring dream where you’re running in sand, except the sand is expensive and occasionally wears a "C" on its chest.

John Tavares actually did his part, potting a second goal early in the third period to drag this mess into overtime. Despite outshooting Seattle 30-28, the inevitable conclusion arrived when Joshua Mahura decided to end the collective misery during the extra frame. It takes a special kind of talent to let a game slip away like that at home, but if there’s one thing this franchise excels at, it’s finding creative ways to secure the "loser point" against teams from the Pacific Northwest. Plan the parade for the "at least we got a point" ceremony; it's going to be a long season.
